London Bridge North

I have always loved London, its a part of my soul its in my bones, it holds a magical quality.  I think this stems from excitement in my childhood seeing HMS Belfast, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London when visiting my Grandfather who worked at Billingsgate market when it was on Tower Hill.  Over the last couple of years I have been fortunate enough to visit Lisbon and I find this a truly amazing place for photography.

I shoot on Canon Cameras both DSLR and Mirrorless and the vast majority of my images are taken on a 16-35mm Lens, a 35mm Prime or a 24-105mm Zoom. As soon as I go beyond the 35mm focal range I feel like I am boxed in and cant move. Recently I have tried a Fujifilm XT4 with Fujifilm Lenses giving the same focal lengths as above. I always shoot in RAW format and then edit my images in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. When planning to visit a location I use Google Maps street view and will often walk the location on the computer screen, getting seeds of ideas. It also helps me navigate when I get there. I use an app on my PC and Phone called Milanote both to create a mood / ideas board and to list locations I want to shoot. I will also list transport links, places to eat etc. Finally a schedule for the trip, which I do not always stick to, but over the course of a trip I will hit the locations that I wanted to. I also use PhotoPills, which I need to learn to use better, Weather Radar, Windy and Sky Candy apps on my phone.

Inspiration and influences for me are Rupert Vandervell who has a fantastic book called Fine Art Street Photography. Mark Fearnley and his workshops of which I have attended two, both group and 1-2-1. I can highly recommend both. Mark sees images where mere mortals would not and he strives to upgrade your vision. There are many others whose photography I love, some famous, some not so but none the less influential.
